Course Overview

Our General English program aims to develop students’ ability to communicate confidently in English. Our English courses build students’ language skills in all areas with particular emphasis on grammar, speaking and pronunciation.

Our Bespoke English programs identify and target student needs and prepare them to confidently use English for general communication in a wide range of situations, including travel, work and social interaction.

Students are taught reading, writing, listening and speaking skills through interesting topics such as: Countries and Cultures, Ambitions and Dreams, Leisure and Lifestyle, Memory and Future Society. Students will also have a solid language foundation to progress to higher level courses.

Delivery and Assessment

  • Interactive class activities that encourage student participation and engagement.
  • Local excursions that provide immersive learning and a deeper understanding of Australian culture.
  • Weekly class-based assessments to measure course progress.

Entry Requirements

  • Students must be 18 years or older. 
  • Students will be required to complete an assessment test to ascertain their English level. This will enable them to join the appropriate class.
  • There are no academic entry requirements.

Pathways

  • The General English program serves as a foundation for students to transition into the IELTS Preparation class, providing them with the essential skills needed to excel in the IELTS exam.
  • Upon successful completion of the General English program, students can transition into a range of esteemed vocational courses offered at Lonsdale Institute. These include Marketing & Communication, Business, Project Management, and Hospitality and Event Management, opening doors to professional growth.

Course Progress

The program is designed to accommodate people of all levels. Course progress is evaluated on a weekly basis, to ensure accurate placement and continual development.

Step 01

Orientation

Students attend Orientation and their English level is evaluated based on the English Placement Test and/or previous qualifications attained.

Step 02

Attend

Students attend classes and participate in weekly tests and activities to measure their progress.

Step 03

Certificate

Students receive a certificate at the end of the program, detailing their core skill levels.
